Will the red fade?
It softens somewhat as individual flowers age, which is normal for red coneflowers, but the plant keeps opening fresh blooms through the season.
Should I cut it back in fall?
Leave the seedheads standing for goldfinches and winter interest, then cut back in early spring.
Why did my last coneflower die out?
Usually winter wet, not cold. Coneflowers need drainage; heavy, soggy soil is the most common reason they fail to return.
