Green Giant is the fast one. It is deer resistant, it will take a dry site, and it makes a tall screen quicker than anything else we carry — but it finishes at thirty feet tall and ten feet wide, so it wants room. We stock it from 6 ft up to 10 ft, with 367 six-to-seven footers in stock. Delivery across NH, MA and ME, pickup at the nursery, and installation within 50 miles.

Price per plant — the more you buy, the less each one costs
Five feet on centre. Green Giant matures at about ten feet wide, so five-foot spacing gives a solid screen without the row strangling itself in a decade. People routinely plant these three feet apart because that is what they have read for Emerald Green — do not. It is a much bigger tree. The count depends only on your run: length divided by five, plus one to close the end.

Installation is $300 for the first ten plants and $30 each after that, counted separately for each variety — so shorter runs pay the minimum.
Because it is spaced wider, a Green Giant screen often works out cheaper per foot than Emerald Green even though each tree costs more. For any other length, the hedge calculator does it in about a minute.

Choose Green Giant if deer browse your property, if you want height quickly, if the site runs dry, or if you have thirty feet of depth to give it. Choose Emerald Green for a narrow bed, a formal line, or a boundary where a thirty-foot tree would be a problem for you or your neighbour in fifteen years.

Thirty feet is not a typo. Green Giant is a big tree, and the most common mistake we see is planting it as though it were an Emerald Green — three feet apart, two feet off a property line. Give it five feet between trees and at least five feet of clearance from anything you do not want it touching in fifteen years.
Five feet on centre. They mature at about ten feet wide, so anything tighter and the row will crowd itself out within ten to fifteen years. Five feet still gives a solid screen well before then.
Divide your run in feet by five, round up, then add one to close the end. Fifty feet needs 11 trees, a hundred feet needs 21. The hedge calculator handles corners and staggered rows.
About 30 feet tall and 10 feet wide at maturity. If that is more tree than your site can carry, Emerald Green finishes at 12.5 ft by 4 ft and is the better fit.

Yes, and this is the main reason to choose it over Emerald Green. On a property with regular deer traffic Green Giant is the safer planting by a wide margin.
It takes full sun to part shade. It will grow in part shade but more slowly and less densely — for a screen, give it as much sun as the site allows.
