Heuchera 'Northern Exposure Silver'
Choose Northern Exposure Silver Coral Bells for round, veined burgundy-silver foliage on a dense mound bred specifically for northern winters and rust resistance; the tradeoff is that heuchera are foliage plants — the flower spikes are secondary — and this one wants even moisture and drainage, not heavy wet clay.

You need something reliable in a cold winter.
You have had heuchera rust or heaving before.

PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
A-
Silver over burgundy gives a cooler, more refined look than the bright heucheras and mixes with almost anything.
Growth Rate
A-
Fast for a heuchera, forming a dense multi-crown mound quickly.
Maintenance
A-
Trim tattered foliage in early spring; water through hot spells and otherwise leave it alone.
Deer Resistance
B+
Deer tend to leave this alone, though hungry deer may sample it where pressure is heavy.
Disease Resistance
A
Bred from Heuchera richardsonii specifically for rust resistance — the disease that ruins most coral bells.
Winter Hardiness
A
This series was bred for northern cold. It is the heuchera group we trust most in New Hampshire.
Our Experience
At PGNE, Silver is the most flexible of the three Northern Exposures we carry — darker-toned foliage handles more sun than Amber or Lime, so it is the one to use if the bed gets some real afternoon light. Like the rest of the series, its real selling point is that it comes back. Coral bells have a reputation for heaving out of the ground over a New Hampshire winter, and this breeding line is the fix for that.

Customers Usually Ask
How much sun can it take?
More than the Amber or Lime. Darker-toned heucheras handle sun better, though some afternoon shade still gives the best look.
Will it heave out over winter?
Far less than standard heuchera. This series was bred from a hardy northern species specifically to survive freeze-thaw cycles.
Will it get rust like my last coral bells?
Much less likely. Rust resistance is the main reason this series exists.

Showed up on time and planted it perfectly. I indicated a light we had to illuminate it and they placed it for optimal lighting. Worked fast and left a clean worksite. First rate!

They delivered three trees: a big linden, a big poplar and a little spice bush with install on the big trees. The install guys were great and professional and fast. All the trees looked good with minimal damage.

I went up there today from Quincy MA to pick up two Blue Wichita Junipers and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Chris and everybody from Pro Growers of New England!

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!
