The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!

PGNE Report Card
| Category | Grade | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Landscape Impact | A- | It gives a strong evergreen backdrop without looking overly formal. |
| Growth Rate | B | It builds steadily, but it is not a quick privacy fix. |
| Maintenance | B+ | Little pruning is usually needed when it is planted with enough room. |
| Deer Resistance | A- | Deer rarely bother this tree; it is a dependable choice where deer are a concern, though young trunks can still be rubbed. |
| Small Space Fit | D | It gets too broad for tight beds, corners, and narrow property lines. |
| Screening Value | A- | Its dense branching makes it a strong long-term screen for larger spaces. |
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend Black Hills Spruce for larger screening rows and exposed areas, not small ornamental beds. Give it space from the start and it will be easier to own long-term.
