Liriope muscari 'Variegata'
Choose Variegated Lily Turf for a tidy shaded edge or groundcover where you want bright foliage without much fuss. Main tradeoff: it gives texture more than showy bloom, so don’t use it as the main flower feature.
Buy This If
You want a clean planted edge.
You need foliage for shade.
You prefer simple upkeep.
Skip This If
You want large summer flowers.
The soil stays soggy.
You need privacy screening.
PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
B
The variegated foliage reads well in shade, but the flowers are a secondary feature.
Growth Rate
B+
It fills in at a useful pace for edging and groundcover without acting like an instant carpet.
Maintenance
A-
Once established, it usually needs little more than cleanup of tired foliage.
Deer Resistance
B+
Deer tend to leave this alone, though hungry deer may sample it where pressure is heavy.
Small Space Fit
A
Its compact, clumping habit makes it easy to place along paths, foundations, and small shade beds.
Screening Value
F
This is a groundcover and edging plant, not a plant for privacy or visual blocking.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend this for shaded front edges, mailbox beds, and underplanting shrubs where homeowners want structure without constant trimming.

Customers Usually Ask
Does it flower?
Yes, it sends up purple flower spikes, but foliage is the main reason to plant it.
Will deer eat it?
It has good deer resistance, though heavy pressure can make any plant vulnerable.
Is it a grass?
No, it only looks grass-like; it is a perennial liriope.

Bought 8-10 ft and all were barely 8 if you count the container. Trees are thin and lots of brown branches and broken branches due you thrown in box truck no wrapping or anything. Hoping they survive and thicken up quick…

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!

Great prices and Unbelievable selection of big and small trees, shrubs, and flowering perennials! Nicest folks to work with. And local delivery is awesome! First time purchasing from this company, , and have already told friends, neighbors and family. The owner Chris is professional, knowledgeable, and yet laid back in a most friendly way.
