PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
B+
The long yellow bloom season gives it useful color, but it will not carry a winter planting by itself.
Growth Rate
B
It fills in at a steady pace without becoming a constant pruning project.
Maintenance
B+
A light cleanup and shape-up is usually enough, provided the soil drains well.
Deer Resistance
B+
Deer tend to leave this alone, though hungry deer may sample it where pressure is heavy.
Small Space Fit
A-
Its naturally mounded habit works well near walks, entries, and smaller planting beds.
Screening Value
D
It is too low and open in winter to be useful for privacy or blocking views.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend this for bright mixed borders where summer flower color matters more than winter structure. Give it drained soil and avoid placing it as a deer-exposed front-line shrub.

Customers Usually Ask
Does it bloom for a long time?
Yes, that is the main reason to buy it.
Is it good for deer-heavy yards?
No, choose a tougher deer-resistant shrub instead.
Can it be used as a hedge?
Only as a low informal edge, not a tight privacy hedge.
Privacy & Screening: Many varieties grow dense and full, making them ideal for natural hedges and property boundaries.
Seasonal Color & Texture: From evergreen foliage to flowering varieties, shrubs provide visual interest in every season.
Shrubs Grown to Perform in New England
At Pro Growers of New England, our shrubs are grown and maintained locally to perform in true New England conditions. From flowering varieties to evergreen foundation plants, each shrub is properly spaced, pruned, and cared for to develop strong root systems and balanced structure before it ever reaches your landscape.
Unlike large online sellers that ship plants long distances, we invite you to visit our nursery, walk the rows, and inspect the exact shrubs available. You can see the size, health, and fullness in person — ensuring there are no surprises upon delivery.
We use your zone to show which plants are hardy where you live.

Showed up on time and planted it perfectly. I indicated a light we had to illuminate it and they placed it for optimal lighting. Worked fast and left a clean worksite. First rate!

They delivered three trees: a big linden, a big poplar and a little spice bush with install on the big trees. The install guys were great and professional and fast. All the trees looked good with minimal damage.

I went up there today from Quincy MA to pick up two Blue Wichita Junipers and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Chris and everybody from Pro Growers of New England!

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!
They're very "leggy" right now but that's not unexpected in the fall. Otherwise, they look healthy, and we're looking forward to seeing them next year.
