Phlox subulata ‘Snowflake’
Choose Snowflake Creeping Phlox for a sunny slope, wall edge, or front border where you want a tight white spring carpet. Main tradeoff: it is a groundcover, not a season-long flower show or weed barrier by itself.
Buy This If

You need a low groundcover.
You are planting along stone.
Skip This If

PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
A-
Spring bloom gives a clean white edge or carpet, but the show is brief.
Growth Rate
B+
It fills gaps faster than many perennials once rooted, though new plantings still need patience.
Maintenance
B+
Routine care is light, but trimming after bloom and weeding during establishment keep it tidy.
Deer Resistance
B+
Deer tend to leave this alone, though hungry deer may sample it where pressure is heavy.
Small Space Fit
A
Its low, spreading habit works well along edges, steps, and wall tops without blocking views.
Screening Value
F
It has no practical screening use because it stays low and open to view.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend Snowflake where the goal is a clean, low edge that can knit between stones or spill over a wall. Plant multiples and keep weeds out early; single plants look sparse until they settle in.

Customers Usually Ask
Does it stay green in winter?
It keeps a low green mat, though New England weather can roughen the foliage.
How long does it bloom?
Spring is the main show; after that it reads mostly as green groundcover.
Should I cut it back?
A light trim after flowering helps keep the mat dense and neat.
Why Choose Perennials for Your Garden?
Return Year After Year: Perennials come back each season, reducing replanting costs while increasing garden maturity
Extended Seasonal Interest: With proper selection, you can enjoy continuous blooms from spring through fall.
Low Long-Term Maintenance: Once established, many perennials require minimal upkeep and become more resilient over time.

I went up there today from Quincy MA to pick up two Blue Wichita Junipers and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Chris and everybody from Pro Growers of New England!

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!

Great prices and Unbelievable selection of big and small trees, shrubs, and flowering perennials! Nicest folks to work with. And local delivery is awesome! First time purchasing from this company, , and have already told friends, neighbors and family. The owner Chris is professional, knowledgeable, and yet laid back in a most friendly way. Mags in the office will help with any details. My all time BEST garden purchase EVER!
Bought 8-10 ft and all were barely 8 if you count the container. Trees are thin and lots of brown branches and broken branches due you thrown in box truck no wrapping or anything. Hoping they survive and thicken up quick…
