Lavandula x intermedia 'Tesseract'
Choose Sensational!® Lavender for a hot, sunny, well-drained border where fragrance matters; the tradeoff is that it will struggle in wet soil or shade, even with better humidity tolerance than many lavenders.
Buy This If
You have full sun and sharp drainage.
You want strong lavender fragrance.
Deer browse other perennials nearby.
Skip This If
Soil stays wet after rain.
The spot gets half-day shade.
You want a no-prune perennial.
PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
A-
The silver foliage and dark flower spikes read clearly in sunny borders without needing a large footprint.
Growth Rate
B+
It fills in faster than many woody herbs, but it still needs a well-drained site to build a full mound.
Maintenance
B
Plan on good drainage, light pruning after bloom, and avoiding rich, wet soil.
Deer Resistance
A-
Deer usually pass this by, since the foliage deters browsing, though no plant is completely immune where pressure is severe.
Small Space Fit
B
It works along paths and border fronts, though it needs airflow and room rather than crowding.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend Sensational!® Lavender for the driest, sunniest bed first. If the area gets irrigation overspray or holds spring moisture, fix drainage or choose a tougher non-lavender perennial.

Customers Usually Ask
Can it handle New England humidity?
Better than many lavenders, but drainage and sun still decide success.
Does it need rich soil?
No. Lean, gritty soil is better; compost-heavy beds can stay too wet.
Will deer eat it?
Usually passed over because of its strong scent, but no plant is immune.
Why Choose Perennials for Your Garden?
Return Year After Year: Perennials come back each season, reducing replanting costs while increasing garden maturity
Extended Seasonal Interest: With proper selection, you can enjoy continuous blooms from spring through fall.
Low Long-Term Maintenance: Once established, many perennials require minimal upkeep and become more resilient over time.

They're very "leggy" right now but that's not unexpected in the fall. Otherwise, they look healthy, and we're looking forward to seeing them next year.
Showed up on time and planted it perfectly. I indicated a light we had to illuminate it and they placed it for optimal lighting. Worked fast and left a clean worksite. First rate!

They delivered three trees: a big linden, a big poplar and a little spice bush with install on the big trees. The install guys were great and professional and fast. All the trees looked good with minimal damage.

I went up there today from Quincy MA to pick up two Blue Wichita Junipers and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Chris and everybody from Pro Growers of New England!

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!
