Viburnum carlesii
Choose Koreanspice Viburnum if spring fragrance near a door, patio, or walkway matters most. The tradeoff: it is not a narrow shrub or evergreen screen, so give it room and do not rely on it for winter privacy.
Buy This If
You want strong spring fragrance.
You have room for a rounded shrub.
You value fall leaf color.
Skip This If
You need evergreen privacy.
The bed is narrow.
Soil stays wet.
PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
A-
It earns its place with strong spring fragrance, clean foliage, and good fall color, but the flower show is seasonal.
Growth Rate
B
It grows at a steady pace, which is useful for shaping but not fast enough for quick coverage.
Maintenance
B+
It usually needs only light pruning after bloom and basic watering while establishing.
Deer Resistance
C
This isn't deer-resistant; deer may browse it, especially tender new growth, so protect it where deer pressure is heavy.
Small Space Fit
C+
It works in average beds but becomes too full for tight corners, narrow entries, or cramped walkways.
Screening Value
C
It can soften views in season, but it is deciduous and not the right pick for dependable privacy.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend Koreanspice Viburnum where people will actually pass by it in spring, not hidden in the back corner, because fragrance is the main reason to plant it.

Customers Usually Ask
How fragrant is it?
Very fragrant in spring, especially near walks, doors, patios, and open windows.
When should I prune it?
Prune lightly right after flowering so you do not remove next spring's buds.
Will it give me berries?
Do not buy it mainly for berries; buy it for fragrance, shape, and fall color.
Why buy for fall color

Foliage, berries and late bloom — all three seasons of interest
Fall planting means roots established before winter
Shrubs Grown to Perform in New England
At Pro Growers of New England, our shrubs are grown and maintained locally to perform in true New England conditions. From flowering varieties to evergreen foundation plants, each shrub is properly spaced, pruned, and cared for to develop strong root systems and balanced structure before it ever reaches your landscape.
Unlike large online sellers that ship plants long distances, we invite you to visit our nursery, walk the rows, and inspect the exact shrubs available. You can see the size, health, and fullness in person — ensuring there are no surprises upon delivery.
We use your zone to recommend plants that survive your winters, and to estimate when your
order ships — we ship each plant when the weather where you live is right for it.

Bought 8-10 ft and all were barely 8 if you count the container. Trees are thin and lots of brown branches and broken branches due you thrown in box truck no wrapping or anything. Hoping they survive and thicken up quick…
I went up there today from Quincy MA to pick up two Blue Wichita Junipers and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Chris and everybody from Pro Growers of New England!

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!

Great prices and Unbelievable selection of big and small trees, shrubs, and flowering perennials! Nicest folks to work with. And local delivery is awesome! First time purchasing from this company, , and have already told friends, neighbors and family. The owner Chris is professional, knowledgeable, and yet laid back in a most friendly way. Mags in the office will help with any details. My all time BEST garden purchase EVER!
