Pachysandra terminalis 'Green Carpet'
Choose Green Carpet Japanese Pachysandra for shaded beds where you need a tight evergreen groundcover that helps hold soil. The tradeoff: it spreads, so use it where a colony is welcome, not where you want separate plants.
Buy This If
You want a green carpet in shade.
You need soil coverage, not flowers.
You prefer a plant that spreads.
Skip This If
You want a clumping perennial.
The area bakes in afternoon sun.
You dislike edging spreading plants.
PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
B
It gives shaded areas a clean, unified look, but the effect is foliage-driven rather than colorful.
Growth Rate
A-
It fills in quickly once settled, especially where soil moisture is steady.
Maintenance
B+
It is easy after establishment, but borders may need occasional edging.
Deer Resistance
A-
Deer usually pass this by, since the foliage deters browsing, though no plant is completely immune where pressure is severe.
Small Space Fit
B-
It can work in contained shade beds, but it is not the best pick for tiny mixed plantings.
Screening Value
F
It is a groundcover and should not be used for privacy or visual screening.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend this for homeowners who want shade coverage more than flower display. Give it a defined edge, water it while establishing, and avoid planting it where it can wander into unmanaged areas.

Customers Usually Ask
Will it grow under trees?
Yes, if the soil is not bone dry and it gets watering while establishing.
Does it flower?
It may flower lightly, but you buy this plant for foliage coverage.
Will it spread too much?
It spreads by design, so use edging or plant it in a contained bed.
Why Choose Perennials for Your Garden?
Return Year After Year: Perennials come back each season, reducing replanting costs while increasing garden maturity
Extended Seasonal Interest: With proper selection, you can enjoy continuous blooms from spring through fall.
Low Long-Term Maintenance: Once established, many perennials require minimal upkeep and become more resilient over time.

Bought 8-10 ft and all were barely 8 if you count the container. Trees are thin and lots of brown branches and broken branches due you thrown in box truck no wrapping or anything. Hoping they survive and thicken up quick…

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!

Great prices and Unbelievable selection of big and small trees, shrubs, and flowering perennials! Nicest folks to work with. And local delivery is awesome! First time purchasing from this company, , and have already told friends, neighbors and family. The owner Chris is professional, knowledgeable, and yet laid back in a most friendly way. Mags in the office will help with any details. My all time BEST garden purchase EVER!
