Hydrangea macrophylla
Choose Forever Blue Hydrangea for dependable blue mophead flowers on a compact, reblooming bigleaf that blooms on both old and new wood. The tradeoff: like all bigleaf hydrangeas it wants steady moisture, a protected spot, and a light touch with the pruners.

Soil pH drives the color: acidic soil trends blue, less acidic trends pink. Aluminum sulfate helps hold blue.
Remove dead wood after leaf-out and avoid cutting the whole plant back in spring, since it flowers on old wood too.
It can rebloom on new wood, but weather, moisture, pruning, and winter protection all affect the show.

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of.
