Park grade. These are 7-9 ft Emerald Green Arborvitae that did not hold a straight, upright leader at this height. Expect leaning trunks, uneven columns and thin sides. The root systems and health are the same as our regular grade — the form is what is discounted. If you need a matched, specimen-quality row, buy the regular Emerald Green Arborvitae instead.

Our Experience
At PGNE, we sell park grade to customers screening a back line, a utility area, or a long run where nobody is walking the row with a level. Health and roots are identical to our regular grade; you are paying less for cosmetic form. What we will tell you straight: at 7-9 ft these trees are top-heavy relative to the trunk, so they need a stake and a proper hole. Staked and watered, most of the lean corrects over two or three seasons. Where we would not use them: a front entry, a driveway line, or any row shorter than about eight trees, where a single leaner stands out.

What does park grade mean?
Cosmetic form only. These trees lean or have an uneven column at 7-9 ft. The root system, health and foliage are the same as our regular grade.
Will the lean straighten out?
Usually, with a stake. Set the tree plumb, stake it at planting and leave the stakes on for two seasons. Most trees hold their own after that. Some will always carry a slight lean — buy accordingly.
Can I mix these with regular grade in one row?
We would not. Put park grade on its own run where the eye reads the whole line, not individual trees.
Will it handle a wet spot in the yard?
Better than most evergreens. Northern white cedar is rated FACW and handles a high water table and seasonally soggy ground. What it will not take is stagnant water in compacted clay, and it is genuinely sensitive to drought.
Is it safe from deer?
No; deer can browse it, especially in winter.
