Phlox subulata 'Drummond's Pink'
Choose Drummond's Pink Creeping Phlox for a low, spreading spring carpet along sunny edges, stone walls, and slopes. The tradeoff: after bloom, it reads more like a green mat than a flowering perennial.
Buy This If

You have dry-to-average soil.

PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
A-
The spring bloom gives strong front-of-bed color, but the show is concentrated in one season.
Growth Rate
A
It fills in quickly for edging and small slopes when planted in suitable drainage.
Maintenance
B+
A light trim after flowering helps keep it dense, and soggy soil is the main maintenance headache.
Deer Resistance
B+
Deer tend to leave this alone, though hungry deer may sample it where pressure is heavy.
Small Space Fit
A
Its low, spreading habit works well at edges without blocking nearby plants.
Screening Value
F
This is a groundcover, not a plant for privacy or height.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically recommend this for front edges, stonework, and slopes where spring color matters more than winter coverage. Trim after bloom if you want the mat tighter.

Customers Usually Ask
Will it flower all summer?
No. It blooms heavily in spring; after that, expect foliage coverage, not constant flowers.
Should I cut it back?
Yes, a light shearing after bloom keeps the mat tighter and cleaner.
Is it good for slopes?
Yes, on dry-to-average, well-drained slopes where you want low coverage.
Why Choose Perennials for Your Garden?
Return Year After Year: Perennials come back each season, reducing replanting costs while increasing garden maturity
Extended Seasonal Interest: With proper selection, you can enjoy continuous blooms from spring through fall.
Low Long-Term Maintenance: Once established, many perennials require minimal upkeep and become more resilient over time.

I went up there today from Quincy MA to pick up two Blue Wichita Junipers and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Chris and everybody from Pro Growers of New England!

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!

Great prices and Unbelievable selection of big and small trees, shrubs, and flowering perennials! Nicest folks to work with. And local delivery is awesome! First time purchasing from this company, , and have already told friends, neighbors and family. The owner Chris is professional, knowledgeable, and yet laid back in a most friendly way. Mags in the office will help with any details. My all time BEST garden purchase EVER!
Bought 8-10 ft and all were barely 8 if you count the container. Trees are thin and lots of brown branches and broken branches due you thrown in box truck no wrapping or anything. Hoping they survive and thicken up quick…
