PGNE Report Card
Category
Grade
Why
Landscape Impact
A-
The gold foliage gives strong contrast, but it can look overused if planted in a long solid row.
Growth Rate
B
It fills in at a steady pace, but it is not the fastest arborvitae for quick privacy.
Maintenance
B+
Its upright shape needs little pruning, though watering during establishment still matters.
Deer Resistance
C-
Unprotected plants can be browsed where deer pressure is heavy.
Small Space Fit
A-
The narrow habit works well where wider evergreens would crowd walks, walls, or beds.
Screening Value
B+
It makes a good tight screen, but choose a larger grower when height and speed matter most.
Our Experience
At PGNE, we'd typically use Amber Gold where the gold color is the reason for planting, not where the customer simply needs the fastest or most deer-resistant privacy row.

Customers Usually Ask
Will it stay gold?
Yes, but the strongest color comes with more direct light; too much shade makes it greener.
Can I use it for privacy?
Yes, especially in tight spaces, but it is better for a narrow screen than a large barrier.
Do deer bother it?
They can, especially in winter, so protect it if deer regularly feed near the planting area.
Why Choose Arborvitaes for Privacy & Year-Round Coverage?
Arborvitaes are the gold standard for privacy screens and evergreen structure in New England landscapes. Known for their dense foliage, year-round color, and cold hardiness, these fast-growing evergreens create natural boundaries, wind protection.
Fast, Dense Privacy: Quick-growing varieties fill in efficiently to create natural screening from neighbors or roads.
Year-Round Evergreen Color: Maintain consistent greenery through winter when other plants go dormant.
Cold Hardy & Reliable: Built to withstand northern climates, arborvitaes provide dependable long-term structure.
Why Choose Pro Growers of New England for Arborvitaes?
At Pro Growers of New England, our arborvitaes are grown and maintained locally for real New England conditions — not boxed up and shipped across the country. Every plant is carefully selected, properly spaced, and allowed to develop strong root systems before ever leaving the nursery.
Unlike large online sellers, you’re welcome to visit our nursery in person, walk the rows, inspect the exact plants available, and see firsthand how they’re grown. That means no surprises, no guessing, and no damaged plants from long-distance transit.
These were exactly what we were hoping for. The foliage has a really nice golden tint that brightens up our yard compared to the typical dark green arborvitae. Plants arrived healthy and planted easily. Very happy with the purchase.

Showed up on time and planted it perfectly. I indicated a light we had to illuminate it and they placed it for optimal lighting. Worked fast and left a clean worksite. First rate!

They delivered three trees: a big linden, a big poplar and a little spice bush with install on the big trees. The install guys were great and professional and fast. All the trees looked good with minimal damage.

I went up there today from Quincy MA to pick up two Blue Wichita Junipers and they were absolutely beautiful. Thank you, Chris and everybody from Pro Growers of New England!

The plants are beautiful and all 13 were consistent in height and width. And at a fraction of the cost of other garden centers. Having the team that delivered them do the planting was one of the best values I can think of. They did a great job from start to finish and even helped me with my watering system which they didn’t have to do!
